CYMATIC

SERIES

“Through the Cymatic series, sound finds expression in tangible forms, shaping vibrational phenomena into objects with aesthetics and function.”

le_Brimet

Cymatic patterns are an exploration of visible sound and vibration. Coined by Hans Jenny (1904-1972), a physician and natural scientist, in ‘Cymatics: The Study of Wave Phenomena.

“This is not an unregulated chaos; it is a dynamic but ordered pattern.”, Hans Jenny

Resonance in various mediums gives rise to a plethora of universal geometry, symmetry, and beauty, sparking contemplation on the fundamental nature of sound, vibration, form, and numerous other questions. The organic pattern that arises from the biological concept not only creates an intriguing texture at the base of the pieces but also structurally reinforces them, contributing to a redefinition of formal lines. Stool, High Stool, coffee table, and side tables are designed according to the new (Re)generative aesthetic, in harmony with the new principles of 3D printing with robotic arms, where line thickness, printing speed, and the peculiarities of recycled materials play an essential role in the materiality of the objects.

01. Different patterns form in the excitatory medium depending on the geometry of the plate and the driving frequency.

02. The surface of a plate, diaphragm, or membrane is typically vibrated, and regions of maximum and minimum displacement are made visible with a thin coating of particles, paste, or liquid.

03. The complexity of patterns formed by sand or salt increases proportionally with the frequency of the sound projected.
